The Finance arm oversees the hopefully smooth day-to-day operations of REX HILL, provides the monthly and annual views of the company’s performance as well as the financial grist to the company’s strategic plan. As finance touches every aspect of the business, most rewarding is the opportunity to work on a daily basis with everyone.
BILL HATCHER: CEO. A poet, discovered an equal taste for food early on, he took an MBA and embarked on a corporate career in Financial and Strategic planning. Ten years later, tired of five billion dollar corporations, he and his wife, Deb, abruptly moved to Oregon and jumped feet first into wine. Bill consulted through 1987 when the Drouhin family acquired their first property in Oregon. Subsequently, he was engaged to build and develop Domaine Drouhin, remaining there until 2001. Soon thereafter, he founded A to Z with Deb and partners Sam Tannahill and Cheryl Francis as well as handcrafting a tiny production of his own William Hatcher wine.
AMY PROSENJAK: CFO, COO. Leaving the corporate world and the Midwest behind, Amy moved to Oregon in January 2007 less than a month after a whirlwind 24 hour visit the week before Christmas. She relishes that the wine industry is as crazy as her first impression. (The free wine doesn’t hurt either.) Amy’s background includes an Accounting degree from Ohio Wesleyan University followed by 13 years in corporate finance for The Limited and American Signature in Columbus, OH. As A to Z’s chief financial and operations officer, she is helping to plan the strategic growth of the company while simultaneously bringing some order and controls to the hectic day to day of the winery. Amy, her husband Steve and dog Cody, love the Pacific Northwest and their new lifestyle. Both Amy and Steve have already attained their first level WSET certification.
JULIA SARGENT: Senior Accountant. Led a rather nomadic life, growing up in various towns in the NW as her father moved up the food chain in the broadcasting industry. After college at the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!), she decided adventure was more important than money and got a job travelling around the US and Canada with the international, non-profit company Up With People. Deciding that two years of living out of a suitcase were enough, she moved to Portland, worked for the student exchange company AFS and fell in love with her husband. In 2006, an ad on Craigslist enticed her to combine her accounting skills with her love of wine. Although Portland had been good to her, she and her husband Jeff decided to give small town living a try and moved with their two cats to McMinnville a year ago. They love the community and spend a good amount of their free time performing with the local theater.
SUE BLACK: Supply Chain & Logistics Coordinator. A New Jersey native, Sue arrived in Oregon after spending 14 years in Syracuse, NY. Her wine interest began after many years enjoying the wines of the Finger Lakes Region. Sue has a degree in Consumer Studies and an MBA from Syracuse University. After working the past 12 years in sales, she entered the Oregon wine industry, first in our tasting room and now as our Accounting Coordinator. She recently attained her WSET Intermediate Certification and plans to continue with the Advanced Course this summer. Sue and her husband, Bob, love the Pacific NW, the easy, snow-free winters, and are busy raising their children, Anna & Bobby.
