We farm our own vineyards biodynamically and carefully select growers to work with who share our intentions in the vineyard. We are proud to be among the oldest Oregon wineries and to farm some of the oldest vineyards in the Willamette Valley. At REX HILL, we respect what the fruit brings to us and then shepherd it into wines with quiet power and eloquence, giving true expression of site, vintage and climate.

WINEMAKING

MICHAEL DAVIES: Executive Winemaker

A small town New Zealander, Michael completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, Scandinavian Studies and Political Science at the University of Auckland and tested the unusual employment possibilities that afforded, before returning to Lincoln University for a post-graduate diploma in Viticulture & Enology. Prior to joining A to Z, he served for 6 years at Chehalem as the Vineyard Manager and Assistant Winemaker. He has also worked in Burgundy, California, the Hunter Valley of Australia and numerous regions of New Zealand.

Michael and his winemaker wife, Anna Matzinger, together make the Matzinger Davies wines.

 

 

 

 

OLIVIER PROST: Associate Winemaker

Olivier studied in his native France, first winemaking and viticulture in Montpellier and later beverage and wine marketing in Paris. Starting in 1998, he began working harvests in Languedoc-Roussillon, Bordeaux, and Burgundy, and then heading abroad to Napa, New Zealand, and Australia. In 2009, Olivier came to A to Z Wineworks where he served as Cellar Hand, Cellar Master, Assistant Winemaker, ad now Associate Winemaker. 

 

 

 

 

 

ANNA WELCH PROST: Associate Winemaker
Anna serves an integral role in winemaking with a primary focus on A to Z white and rosé wines. Following her degree in Horticulture from Cal Poly, Anna studied at Lincoln University in New Zealand and later also completed the Chemeketa Winemaking program. She worked at Chappellet and Cardinale wineries in California, Delegats Wine Estates in New Zealand, and Vasse Felix Winery in Asutralia before coming to A to Z for the 2009 harvest. After harvest, she continued on as Lab Technician, then Lab Manager, Enologist, and Assistant Winemaker before becoming Associate Winemaker. Thoughtful, intelligent, kind, and tenacious, Anna is a valued and committed member of A to Z Wineworks and REX HILL Winery.
